Newsletter Format change = blog change

Due to my new skills with Publisher and Outlook, my MoNews newsletter is now sent via e-mail. Therefore, this Speaking of Mosaic blog, which primarily served as my online newsletter, is no longer necessary. From here on out, I'll be frequently updating my website (www.familiamcbryde.com) and it's blog (www.familiamcbryde.blogspot.com).

If you'd like to receive my e-letter, please e-mail me at rob@mosaicchurch.net to request a subscription.

Happy Blog-hopping!

Mo News from Rob McBryde ~ April 2006

Hey Friends,
Is it April already??? WOW! March was a blink and full of wonderful God-things. First, I will recap some highlights of March and then share a glimpse of what's ahead in April.

March 5th - I ran in the Little Rock 5K Fun Run just prior to the Little Rock Marathon. For someone who was considering skipping the event altogether, I was quite pleased with my time of 32:30. As much as I complain to my wife about being out of shape, I am so thankful to God for a healthy body that can jog 3.2 miles without stopping. The 5K really put all the verses about running the race as to win the prize into perspective. It takes determination, pain and hard work, as well as the sustaining grace of God to run that race.

March 11th - We had a garage sale for the Blocker family who moved to north Africa at the end of March. Two goals for this sale were to get rid of a lot of their stuff as they will be gone for two years and to raise money for their 7 plane tickets to the mission field. Gordon Blocker approached me in January about this task, and I gladly took it on as a personal challenge to raise most, if not all, of the money needed. Gordon hoped to get about $2500 from the sale which would cover over half of the $4000 needed for the airfare. At the end of the garage sale on that Saturday, we had collected over $4100! Praise be to God!

March 16th - Ines and I took a roadtrip with the Blocker 7 to get them and their 21 50-lb bags to Dallas. This was a great time of talking with Gordon in the car about his Jesus-following experiences, marriage, and walking in faith. We will definitely miss the Blockers while they're gone, but we can't wait to hear all about the Kingdom-work they are a part of in north Africa.

March 31-April 2 - Just last weekend, the MoYAs had our 3rd annual Spring Encounter retreat to Castle Bluff. This was undoubtedly the BEST one I've ever been on! The Lord was at work all weekend on the young adults, work crew, and our teachers. The theme of the weekend was Get Smart (yes, like the TV show), and our teachers Hubert and Treopia Bryant taught on foolishness and wisdom according to the Bible. It was an extremely challenging weekend, and on Saturday night during our worship time God moved mightily among us bringing many to tears, repentance, deliverance, and freedom. Again I say, PRAISE BE TO GOD!

April 3rd - The new Mosaic Church website is finally done! Check it out at www.mosaicchurch.net! I would love to hear your feedback on this labor of love that has been in the works since Sept. 2005. Be gentle. ;)

Coming up in April...
April 9 - Conclusion of Disciple-Makers' Training. Ines is teaching on Intercultural Competency.
April 12 - Passover Seder Meal at Mosaic (hosted by the MoYAs)
April 14 - Good Friday service at Mosaic
April 16 - Easter service at Mosaic
April 25 - the MoYAs' first Tuesday Evening Dinner at a new location.
April 27-29 - Ethnic Workers' Summit in Atlanta (all Mosaic staff is going!)

Thank you always for your prayers!

peace,

Hey everyone! READ THIS BOOK!

Beyond Black and White
by Dr. George Yancey

I blazed through this book in a week (which is rare for me). It was so easy to consume Dr. Yancey's reflections on racial reconciliation. I hope that many folks will give it a read and have their perspectives on the race issue challenged and matured.

Mo News, November 2005

Greetings faithful readers of Mo News!
The last four weeks have been full of special events getting us Mosaics out in the community. It has been one weekend after another of out-of-the-ordinary ministry, and I think this will pay off big time for the Kingdom. We’ve been sowing good seed in the neighborhood in a variety of ways starting with, of all things, a Halloween Safety Carnival put on by the Little Rock Police Department. Mosaic was the only church invited to help with the carnival which featured many game booths, free food and a peak inside various police and fire department vehicles. About 13 Mosaics helped run the fun with booths like guess-the-slimy-thing-in-the-box, candy in a haystack, and a few Batman piñatas for the children to unleash some stress upon. While letting them feast upon mountains of candy, their parents were given info on Mosaic and invited to attend our Sunday services.

The next weekend, Mosaic, Fellowship Student Ministries, and many other area youth ministries helped execute the last stop of the Livin It Tour, a skate/bmx demo outreach with host Stephen Baldwin (yes, the actor) as well as some incredibly talented professional skaters and bmx-ers. There were many amazing feats accomplished that day, but the most amazing thing was that approximately 300 people were reconciled to God through a newfound faith in Jesus Christ!

For the last several months a growing number of young men have met with me on Sunday nights for discipleship. This month we began an inductive study of the book of Malachi. This intense dissection of scripture has had a profound impact on all of us, and God is kicking our backsides with His truth! What a challenging message from God! In four weeks, we have just finished chapter 1 on the blemished sacrifices of the priests. We have been struck by God’s rebuke to His people that they should not even bother bringing half-hearted sacrifices to His altar (1:10). This time together has deepened our relationships with each other and strengthened our resolve to give the Lord 100% in every aspect of our lives. Amazing what you can learn when you truly seek to understand what you read! :)

ShareFest ’05 happened this month and was concluded with a multi-site worship celebration. Mosaic served as one of the four locations to host a celebration and provided spanish translation for those who needed it. There were distinguishably 7 churches in attendance at our site, and the Mosaic worship team led a powerful time of singing praises featuring contemporary, gospel and Latin style worship music. Everyone really got into it and the Glory of the Lord rose among us.

Last Sunday, Mosaic's morning service concluded early and most of the congregation re-gathered across the street in front of the old K-mart building for a prayer walk. There were 5 prayer stations that people split into and rotated in 5 minute intervals to petition the Lord for a permanent home in the same area that we're currently in. Please join with us in prayer that the Lord would provide us with a home in such a miraculous way that only He can receive credit and honor for it.

On a personal note, I began a new project a few weeks ago. It's called www.familiamcbryde.com. After stumbling my way through a tutorial in Dreamweaver 4, I learned enough about web design to be dangerous. :) Take a look and feel free to comment on the (B)LOG page to say hi.

I can’t say (or write) this enough, but THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE SUPPORTED ME AND PRAYED FOR ME OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS! You all deserve a standing ovation.

Thanks for reading!

Blessings and Grace,

Rob <><

As if I don't have enough of these darn things... (*edited)

I switched from serendipity to blogger for the Familia McBryde blog. Why re-invent the wheel? (or learning curve in this case)
