Mo News, October 2005

Greetings dear friends and family!
Has it been month already?! I love it! That must mean that I’m having fun because you know the old saying, “Time flies when…” I hope this letter finds you happy, healthy and blessed by our Lord.

October was packed with many special events that brought great honor and glory to the Lord. Highlights of the month included…

• On September 30th and October 1st, Mosaic held an outreach event for Latinos in central Arkansas as well as a pastoral networking conference that Saturday morning. My father-in-law (mi suegro in Spanish) Alí Velásquez flew in from South Carolina to speak at the revival and the pastors’ conference. It was a great first step at uniting the efforts of Hispanic churches in central Arkansas. It was also the first time I was able to work with mi suegro in ministry. We had a great time!
• Inés and I are six weeks into the couples study on The DNA of Relationships and are loving it! The insight into relationships has helped strengthen our marriage (which is approaching its first anniversary!) and also our ministry to young adults.
• Some October events allowed for a little R&R as we were able to make it down to the King Biscuit Blues Festival for a day and go to the David Crowder/Shane & Shane concert. As the old proverb says, “All work and no play makes (Rob) a dull boy.”
• On October 14th and 15th the MoYAs went on our 2nd annual Fall Encounter overnight retreat. This year we ventured off to the Ozark Conference Center in Solgohachia, AR. It was an awesome time of worshiping the Lord with praise led by Rachel Alford and instruction from Harold Nash and his wife Dena. Harold and Dena taught on the topic of living pure from the passage of 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8. Twenty-three young adults heard two powerful messages on living a life that is pleasing to God. Everyone came away from the weekend refreshed, encouraged and inspired to walk more closely with the Lord.
• Last weekend the entire Mosaic staff and many volunteers traveled to Arlington, TX for a multi-ethnic ministry conference called mosaix. There were more than twice as many people than last year from various denominations and ethnic backgrounds who came to learn more about multi-ethnic ministry, church planting, transformation and revitalization. At the end of the conference, a network of churches and ministry leaders was launched called Mosaix. There is a movement towards unity in God’s church, and I am so excited to be a part of it! The DNA of Relationships - Week 2

This week the concept of the "Power of One" was briefly introduced. (It is covered in more detail in Chapter 4.) Simply put, it says...

The only thing in the whole world that I can control is ME. I am
personally responsible for my own life.

Verses that were referenced:

"I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Luke 5:32 ~> refering to the fact that Jesus does the changing in the sinners life

"we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
2 Corinthians 10:5 ~> pointing out personal responsibility in one's thoughts and actions

"My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."
James 1:19 ~> I should listen more, speak less, and not easily get angry

The speaker mentioned a book on dating & relationships called Don't Date Naked by Michael Smalley. It sounded like a more reasonable approach than the beloved "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" of yesteryear. :) If anyone has read this or looked at it, feel free to share your thoughts with me.


More to come! This study is just getting started really. The meat of what this book has to offer starts in Chapter 4 and beyond.
