Mo News, Issue 15, January 2005

Goodbye 2004!
It seems like I blinked and the year 2004 passed by. I am so thankful to God for all of the wonderful things that occurred this past year! Obviously, I am grateful for my new wife Inés. She is the love of my life, and God has granted us a large portion of His favor. We had a beautiful wedding on December 18th, and an incredible number of family members and close friends traveled far to witness our union before the Lord.

The day after that we flew to Cozumel, Mexico for our honeymoon. After a busy holiday ministry season, buying and moving into a house, Inés graduating from college, and planning and participating in our wedding weekend festivities, the week in the sun was a welcome change of pace.

Again, many praises were offered up from the comfort of the poolside recliners.

Hello 2005!
The New Year is upon us, and the ministries here at Mosaic are moving full steam ahead! The future looks bright as MoYAs (Mosaic Young Adults) and MSM (Mosaic Student Ministries) prepare to build off the progress made in 2004. My feeling is that 2005 will be a breakthrough year for both of these ministries, a year of significant life change and spiritual growth.

In just a couple of weeks there is a MSM retreat to Oklahoma for the students. This will be my first student retreat since I started at Mosaic. I’m excited to get this chance to connect with the kids and also minister alongside my wife who will be leading a girls’ small group on the trip.

Later in the month I will be starting a small group Bible study for young men at Mosaic. We will be looking at the Wild at Heart: A Band of Brothers video series based on the book Wild at Heart by John Eldredge.

This is especially energizing for me because that book had a huge impact on me in 2003, and, along with the prompting of the Holy Spirit, helped influence me to take the chance to be a staff resident at Mosaic. I truly believe that if we strive to be the men that God designed us to be, we will become bolder, stronger, and riskier for the sake of the gospel. I’ll keep you posted!

MoYAs continues to host the Tuesday Evening Dinners twice a month which have taken on more depth in the last few months. In November we added a prayer component to the dinner where we prayed for a new mother and her baby (see picture above). She wept as she shared her story of losing a brother this summer to a drug-overdose, having a child out of wedlock, and missing her parents who are missionaries in Honduras. It was a moving experience as young adults rallied around her in prayer. Significant interactions have continued since that night, and we will continue developing avenues for prayer and authentic fellowship in the days and months to come.

Please pray for these ministries as we strive to see Christ exalted. Thanks!
